HISTORY

musicians-bornu-yola-province-nigeria-23081048.jpeg

Yola is the capital city of Adamawa State and the seat of the historic Adamawa Emirate in northeastern Nigeria. The city is served by the bustling district of Jimeta, located along the banks of the Benue River, one of the country's most important waterways.

The name "Yola" is believed to be derived from Yolde, a word in the Fulfulde language meaning "a settlement on rising ground."

Founded in 1841 by Modibbo Adama, Yola became the political and administrative center of the Adamawa Emirate and has remained an important cultural and historical hub in northern Nigeria.

Today, Yola is a growing educational center and hosts several prestigious institutions, including the Nigerian Law School and the American University of Nigeria. The city combines rich cultural heritage, educational excellence, and warm hospitality, making it a preferred destination for business travelers, students, tourists, and visitors exploring northeastern Nigeria.

Welcome to Yola – the Heart of Adamawa State, where history, culture, and modern development meet.

Adamawa State, known as "The Land of Beauty," offers a stunning mix of dramatic landscapes, UNESCO-recognized heritage, and cultural landmarks. Situated along the Benue and Gongola river valleys, the state is a prime destination for adventure, historical exploration, and eco-tourism.

Koma Hills: Located in the Atlantika Mountains on the Cameroon border, these hills are steeped in the history of the Koma people. They are a favorite for challenging mountain climbing and exploring medieval stone writings.

Mandara Mountains: Spanning the northeastern border, this rugged terrain provides excellent opportunities for rock climbing and exploring beautiful highland scenery.

Three Sisters Rocks: Located in Song, these three striking rock formations stand side-by-side and overlook the town, providing a stunning natural backdrop.
